Question Time With Dan Fisher

When Foxholski gave Dan the questionnaire in the Junction dressing room -  he put it in his pocket and said he would send it on - as he said he was too drunk at the time and wanted to write it up properly.. However lovely Dan ...(or a *swot* according to Kieran 6/7/02..) turns out to be a man of his word and took the trouble to send back his responses to the same questions we did with Kieran (& Didz).  "Dan Fisher is the most productive, underrated and (arguably..) the most talented member of the band... Dan is a God....he rocks etc etc " That sounded sarcastic..but no it's a fact.)

foxholski: Whats been on your stereo on the tour-bus in recent weeks?

Dan: "Same things as always really. New Doves album. New 'Trail of Dead album, new Do Make Say Think album. "

foxholski: Are you all ok? Have you had anymore accidents lately? You seem to get bruised a lot...

Dan: Tom is once again at the heart of the violence. He managed to smash his guitar into both his knee (might say *nuts*, I can't quite make out  handwriting there...although he has very lovely handwriting and there are no spelling errors.) and my back within a couple of gigs. I also hit myself on the head with my guitar. I now have an egg head."

foxholski: Who will you be watching at the Reading fest this year?

Dan: Weezer, Strokes, Black Rebel, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age (are they playing?), Rival Schools, Jimmy Eat World.  Aw, probably loads more."

foxholski: Tell us about your nearest Spinal Tap -esque experience while on the road?

Dan: "We lost our Tourbus...and had to sleep on a service station floor for the night."

foxholski: Whats more rewarding: writing, performing or drinking?

Dan: "Writing, though other band members may disagree."

foxholski: How many crates of beer would you charge us to appear on our demo?

"No beer, just Vodka."

foxholski: You have said Norwich has always given you a good welcome when you play there but what do you really think of Alan Partridgeville?

Dan: "Seems a nice enough place. Although the high street late at night is full of people after Indie scalp."

foxholski: Like many small places the disaffection seems to produce a rather incestuous scene of many underground bands: is that something youve experienced with Reading/Wokingham?

Dan: "No venue in Reading, so nowhere to see Reading bands play, so I haven't got a clue."

foxholski: We have heard vocals from Tom, Ben, Dan and Didz will we ever hear the vocal delights of Kieran and Jon?

Dan:"We're trying to avoid it, but they are very keen."

foxholski: Have you written much stuff on tour? And to what extent might the new lyrics reflect some of your experience of what must have been the total mindfuck of the last few months?

Dan: "A bit of new stuff has been written, not as pacey as old stuff but much darker. And there may well be some tour documentary in the lyrics. Possibly"

foxholski: ..and on a similar note: you have come such a long way in just three years: how do you keep a reality check: like when you turn on the TV/radio or open the NME and there you are?

Dan: "Our friends remind us that we are nobs. And there's no room for egos because we've all seen each other in blue speedos in P.E. at school."

foxholski: Is there a fantasy song that you wish you could go back in time and pretend you wrote like in the school dance scene in Back to the Future?

Dan: "For The Roses by dEUS"

foxholski: A not *particularly* serious question now: What are your respective Porn Names? Our readers really need to know..

Dan: "Don't really know how you get them, but I think mine is Ollie Lime?"

foxholski: Are you keen to tour the States soon?

Dan: "A.S.A.P. but they have to like us first."

foxholski: Your fanatical fans - do you feel that some of the extreme lengths they go to are a sign of dedication to a c*l*ause they dig - or more a sign that they must be three raisons short of a fruitcake?

Dan:"A healthy mixture of the two."

foxholski: You seemed to have played gigs for the past few months without much of a comprehensive break: what have been your coping strategies for being away from home?

Dan: "Alcohol, animals, intense discussions, ISS pro-soccer on PS2"

foxholski: In some ways it must be a bit of a pressure to be built up by the music press as they usually end up wanting to knock bands down again sooner or later. Yet you seem to be doing the wise rationale thing: extensive touring:getting out there and just doing your thing. To what extent does that help to distance yourselves from the hype?

Dan: "Lots. It's the best and only way to do it. You answer to your fans and not journalists."

foxholski: Have you ever thrown anything from a hotel window?

Dan: "We once placed televisions politely outside the front door. We were being ironical."

foxholski: What was the last book you read? Favourite author?

Dan: "last book - 'Man and Boy', Tony Parsons. Favourite author - J.D. Salinger or Luke Reinhart."

foxholski: A couple of slightly leftfield questions now: What is tastier a flake or a mars bar?

..And if you were a vegetable which vegetable would you be?

Dan: "Flake.....and Onion"

foxholski: Favourite female musicians and why?

Dan: "Had crushes on Louise Wener and Debbie Harry but Bjork and P.J. Harvey have better songs. But Keiran likes Patti Smith a lot"

foxholski: What are your feelings about political bands/songs... can music and politics be a positive mix or are they oil and water?

Dan: "You're kind of limiting yourself to one artistic field. Every band should be able to write a few love songs. But Rage' and the 'Scream do rule."

foxholski: If you had to insure a part of your body what part would it be and why?

Dan: "My left hand. If my right one got chopped off I could shove a plectrum in the stump and I'll be fine, but the left would bugger things up somewhat."

foxholski: What are your memories of music lessons at school?(gcse/A-level?).

Dan: "Can't read music so didn't get very far. Tom and Ben did it. Keiran as well, I think. I just remember in the first year, buggering around with the demos on the keyboards, I was an unfocused child."

foxholski: Is Morning Records going to be signing up anyone else soon?

Dan: "Hopefully, when (if?) we get some dosh."

foxholski: Where will you be watching Fridays game?..And your respective opinions of Sundays performance? (This was written in week of Junction gig/England's first games...)

Dan: "My girlfriends house, much to her chagrin."

foxholski: Do you ever check out the message board on your official site? How about other fan sites/Bens Dead Journal?

Dan: "I don't have a computer, but the rest of the band often check it out."

foxholski: Continuing the *mass-debate* on the official board..What are your favourite flavoured jams? ...

Dan: "Strawberry, always."

foxholski: Are you tired? Will you need a long rest after the festivals? Shall we go now?

 Dan: "Am very tired."             17/06/02

Foxholski say: Dan Rocks. And I forgive Kieran as apparently he likes Patti Smith.
